Winter’s Battle: How to Defend Your Beauty
Try as we might, there’s no escaping winter’s brutal weather. And just like a change in your wardrobe, you need to switch up your beauty routine, as well.
To get you through the winter months, check out HFM’s skincare tips and tricks:
Use a humidifier. Humidity drops below 60 percent during the winter season, causing tight and uncomfortable skin. During the day, simply place a bowl of water on your desk to bring moisture to the air and at night, try using a humidifier in your bedroom.
Take care of your hair. Winter will be a thief to your luscious locks. While avoiding heat would be the best way to go, we know it isn’t always possible. Use a heat protectant and up the wager by using hair products with moisturizer. If frizz or breakage is your problem, try adding a small amount of hair spray on your brush to tame.
Moisturize, moisturize moisturize! Although this may seem obvious, moisturizing from head-to-toe is the way to go! Try using a sensitive skin lotion no matter what skin type you are, eliminating any harsh chemicals that could make the situation worse. Blobbing it on directly after a shower will leave the best results.
If you can’t take the heat ... stay out of the shower! Lurking around in a hot shower will quickly cause dry skin and release any moisture causing wreckage to your surface. Instead, opt for lukewarm water and pat yourself dry before applying lotion.
Take a good fish oil supplement. Because fish oil contains essential fatty acids, the supplement will keep your cell membranes healthy, helping the skin to hold water and giving you a radiant glow.
Smother on the sunblock. The sun is strong even in the chilly white months! Be sure to use an SPF to block the reflecting damaging rays. When hitting the slopes, reapply often using a UVA and UVB protectant sunscreen.
Keep your smackers smooth. Avoid waxy lip balm and switch for a buttery formula that includes SPF and a moisturizing ingredient. Trading your matte lipsticks for a gloss can also keep your pucker hydrated.
Keep your fingertips sturdy. Fight the breakage of nails using Vaseline to moisturize your cuticles. When choosing a nail polish, look for one with nail protein in order to keep your nails growing strong through winter's wrongs!
